JET2

Jet2, a flight-only and package holiday company, verged on becoming a meme stock over the summer. Its catchy advertising jingle ‘nothing beats a Jet2 holiday’ was picked up by social media to go alongside holiday fails – bad experiences captured on video whilst travelling. Jet2 chose to embrace the trend rather than attempt to quash it, offering a cash prize for the most creative submissions under the tag #Jet2Challenge. This approach adds a light-hearted touch to its business-focused sustainability strategy, ‘in the air, on the ground and in resort’.

BARRICK MINING CORPORATION

This May, with shareholder approval, Barrick Gold changed its name to Barrick Mining, signalling to the market its investment strategy goes beyond gold to include copper and other minerals. We had last met with Barrick in August 2024, when we discussed its actions on biodiversity, the purpose of its White Rhinoceros project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and whether it could include a marginal abatement cost curve (MACC) as a component of its sustainability reporting and climate transition action plan. In August 2025, we attended Barrick’s annual sustainability update, comprising presentations from CEO Mark Bristow and senior management. Attendees asked questions on topics ranging from human rights, tailings, mine site rehabilitation and water pollution to carbon and biodiversity.
